Russ, who cc emails necessary paperwork to them from within the app said they are impressed with the speed at which they are now receiving the inspection documents. More importantly it is their own Partition Inspection sheet, presented as a PDF with embedded images. Meaning that Vinci no longer had to transfer the information into their own records.

The Chief Fire Officers Association ( CFOA ) has launched a new seven-step guide to help businesses ensure their premises are fire safe.

The Business Safety Strategy 2013-16 affects all properties where there is enforceable fire legislation in place and aims to achieve the CFOA ‘s objective of a business and community sector that sees no deaths or injuries from preventable fires, bringing losses down to an all-time minimum and ensuring there are consistent enforcement and advice practices.

CFOA will ensure it is involved heavily with businesses, including those at the multi-national level to local firms, to ensure they are aware of their responsibilities and understand the regulatory framework which they must abide.

“The changes in fire safety legislation over the last two decades have resulted in differing approaches to enforcement and the advice offered to businesses has varied in a similar way,” the report says, and the document is addressing the challenges that remain in light of these alterations through the seven-step guidance.

The first priority is to promote firefighter safety and expert operational decision-making through ensuring incident commanders have the right information on the built environment.

Next, the CFOA is to compose a framework of qualifications and competence, which will affect protection officers, managers and fire engineers. Thirdly, using clear processes and appropriate staff development, the organisation will ensure legislation is applied in a consistent manner.

In an effort to raise fire safety standards in the UK, BAFE is working to ensure that tenders for fire safety contracts require third party certification (TPC).

Both BAFE , the registration body for companies that achieve third party certification for their fire protection services, and the Fire Industry Association ( FIA ) strongly recommend that that the installation and maintenance of fire safety equipment be carried out by a competent person who has TPC.

It is recommended that fire detection and alarm equipment should comply with the BAFE SP203 scheme, and portable fire extinguishers comply with ST101/ST104.

However, recent reports have revealed that some organisations have encountered advertised tenders that do not specify TPC as a prerequisite and BAFE is therefore encouraging FIA members to make them aware of any such cases.

Stephen Adams, general and marketing manager for BAFE , has confirmed that the body will then follow up any referred cases and ensure future tenders are modified.

A spokesperson for the Department for Communities and Local Government said: “We support third party certification schemes as an effective means of assuring the quality, reliability and safety of products and services, and recognise the valuable role BAFE plays in bringing to the marketplace recognised registration schemes for these products and services.”
